Kill Creek Fishing Tournament 2007

Kansas just had been pounded yesterday with a few funnel clouds and folks weather radios going off with savior thunder storm warnings and tornado warnings so you know those bass were deep today. Brad Burns also having a hard day on his tournament but coming away with some great weigh in fish.

What to Use

It was great walking around today just watching the kids get a chance to really have to think about the tackle they were using. I saw kids in the tackle boxes morAwardse and talking more fishing tactics today than I have ever seen. We had some great instructors out helping these kids such as Rodney Kirk, Miles Miller, Howard Cooper and of course me William Rock.

Josh and I walked around this lake over and over looking for bass or anything that would just bit our bait. Nothing however we did get a few taps at our Texas rigged worms switching from a wacky rigged yum dinger and Bear Paws Hippie Stick with MegaStrike.

As I was walking around the Kill Creek, I came across a local fisherman who introduced me to new bait called sliders. These worms are 4” plastic worms; we talked for a few minutes and traded a few tips on fishing as well a few baits. I immediately went back to the kill creek shelter house where the club had setup. I handed out some new bait to a few of the parents to set their kids up and passed on the information I had learned about this bait. Towards the end of the kill creek tournament my son Joshua had a 2.5lb largemouth bass on the line and up to the bank. Unfortunately the fish was able to shake the hook out last minute all in all this was a learning event for everyone.

We all got a chance to challenge our skills with having to try new techniques we normally are not used to using in our normal day to day fishing. We can normally catch fish almost every time we go out however this time the barometric pressure was working to our disadvantage on this tournament. Josh Pitching into Trees

As we finished the event we all headed back to the shelter house and put our equipment away then we had the kids and parents do a final trash sweep of the land so we left the lake how we found it. After all that was done we sat down and gave away the awards for the biggest fish of the day who received a Night Fishing Light from Mega Cat Crew & NetLight these guys had donated a few lights to our club to give away as prizes. Each Winner in their age group also received a brand new fishing reel from Kickback B.A.S.S. Club.

We would like to thank all the parents that came out and help us coordinate this event. Without you guys it would have been pure craziness.
