Olathe gets ready for a Bass Pro opening
Heavy traffic is a major concern as the city gears up for company’s debut in the KC area.

When Bass Pro opened in St. Louis, shoppers lined up around the block a day early.

In Macon, Ga., they parked on the highway and climbed a 20-foot dirt embankment.

Now Olathe is bracing for its own opening-day spectacle Wednesday night as Bass Pro enters the Kansas City market. Once a second store opens in Independence by 2008, Kansas City will be one of the few markets with two Bass Pro locations.

Small pond looks to get a lot larger with big fish

Bass Pro Shops’ 8 feet of retail space in 1971 in Springfield, Mo., has spawned a multimillion-dollar outdoor retail giant.
And Bass Pro’s success will help Olathe’s economy take a giant step into the new century, officials say.
Bass Pro will open its Outdoor World store at 6 p.m. today at the southwest corner of 119th Street and Interstate 35.
